From a speck of dust to source of inspiration

Events of last few days had a strong and deep impact on me. since the time I informed everybody about my decision to leave IWS, I have been asked so many questions, subjected to so much anger, faced so many disappointed faces, saw rivers flowing down from eyes, that I lost my peace of mind for some time. When I thought of taking a break, I had no intentions of hurting or disappointing anybody, it was a very strong urge to change location for sometime which I could not suppress.I did not anticipate such an impact. However one thing which is giving me immense happiness is this comment by many that " You were my source of inspiration". When I entered this place almost four years ago, I did not even consider myself a speck of dust, suffered with a very low self-esteem. In the course of four years, I have drawn inspiration from so many that I lost the counts of my role-models. There was suddenly a deluge of role-models and everyone had some unique quality which I wanted to imbibe and i tried my best to do so. In the process I did not realise that I also became a source of inspiration for others. I looked longingly towards others to draw light from them and treated them as Sun and I feel I was looking towards that side only with a fixed gaze thatswhy I did not realise that in doing so, I also became a small earthenlamp. Now that I became aware of this light, I am going to make it strong and spread it vigourously. So All those who were upset with the shift of this lamp, need not do that because " I'll be there for you, no matter where I remain."
Including the song sung by Jessica Andrews to sum up my feelings:-
When I lost faith
You believed in me
When I stumbled
You were right there
For every act of love you've done
I owe you one

There were hard times
I know I survived
Just because you stayed by my side
With all I have, with all I am
I promise you all my life

Whenever the road is too long
Whenever the wind is too strong
Wherever the journey may lead to
I will be there for you
I will be there for you

Through sorrow
Or the darkest night
When there's heartache
Deep down inside
Just like a prayer, you will be there
And I promise you all my life

Whenever the road is too long
Whenever the wind is too strong
Wherever the journey may lead to
I will be there for you
I will be there for you

Whenever the road is too long
Whenever the wind is too strong
Wherever the journey may lead to
I will be there for you
I will be there for you

I'll always be there

Be a role model

Yesterday I took feedback from sixth grade students. This is an annual practice, which I do on teacher’s day. The feedback was quite encouraging and there were some revelations for me. I don’t remember exactly but one student was quoting something I said in class about one month ago and was appreciating the efforts I am making in keeping them abreast of what is happening in the world. I kept thinking about that incident but my memory did not help me at all. I could not recollect what I said. This thing made me aware about the importance of mentors in children’s life and their influence on the student’s pyche.
I have heard many parents telling our mentors, “ Whatever you say is brahmavakya for our child, so please talk to him about it and make him aware of ….”. It was difficult for me to accept it earlier but my three years experience with young children actually made me realize that it is true.
Henry Adams aptly quoted “ a teacher affects eternity, no one can tell where its influence ends.” There have been many living examples of this quote. A mentor has touched so many lives, has brought meaningful changes in child and motivated many to scale the heights.
Children are quite perceptive and observant. They keep observing and learning from the adults around. They catch you unawares and know when they are being told lies. If a teacher has so much influence on children then why can’t we use this influence positively and inspire them. It’s very important for us to be a role model, as, if we will not WALK THE TALK, they will not follow. As it is the present generation is struggling as far as role models are concerned. There are very few. Yeah its not going to be easy but it is worth trying.
